We have now worked out a plan of exactly how to perform the 'hair pull' effect required for our opening. We will be using fishing wire attached to a rolled up strip of tape which sticks to the hair. We have found that the hair effectively masks this tape and that the tape is strong enough to allow the hair to be pulled upwards by the fishing wire.
As the image with our actor below shows, we tried both regular transparent tape and black electrical tape. The electrical tape was more sticky and so more secure, but was easily visible through the hair. We have therefore decided to use the clear tape instead. The fishing wire will be masked out in After Effects, with the space replaced by a blank slate of the same scene.
Also of note is that in order to make the rising of the hair smoother and look less like we are just lifting it, we may film this section at 50fps then slow it to 25fps in post.
This is really good! I think we should definitely use the clear tape rather than the black tape as the black tape is visible. I'm glad it works.
